The Heart Institute

Residents of Southcentral Kentucky can feel confident that quality heart services are available close to home. The Medical Center is ready to meet the needs of heart patients 24 hours a day.

The Heart Institute at The Medical Center offers the region's only comprehensive cardiac program including open heart surgery. From diagnosis and emergency intervention to surgery and rehabilitation, The Heart Institute provides quality cardiac care in state-of-the-art facilities.

Board certified surgeons lead The Medical Center's heart team. We offer the area's only 24-hour emergency intervention for open heart surgery, balloon angioplasty and cardiac stenting. As an accredited Chest Pain Center, The Medical Center provides immediate, life-saving response for patients experiencing a heart attack. An extensive network of cardiologists are on staff to provide diagnosis and treatment services including cardiac catheterization and pacemaker placement.

In addition to cardiac and thoracic surgery services, the physicians of The Heart Institute also provide vascular services including surgery and minimally invasive procedures that improve circulation in the arteries and veins.

The Heart Institute bases its quality on its record of successful outcomes and patient and family satisfaction. Attention to detail at every step of the process ensures that patients receive the best level of care. Constant communication with patients and families adds a measure of compassion unsurpassed by programs at larger metropolitan hospitals.

Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) met overall quality measures for patient safety and outcomes, developed with input from the medical community. A Local Blue Plan may require additional criteria for facilities located in its own service area; for details, contact your Local Blue Plan. Blue Distinction Centers+ (BDC+) also met cost measures that address consumers' need for affordable healthcare. Each facility's cost of care is evaluated using data from its Local Blue Plan. Facilities in CA, ID, NY, PA, and WA may lie in two Local Blue Plans' areas, resulting in two evaluations for cost of care; and their own Local Blue Plans decide whether one or both cost of care evaluation(s) must meet BDC+ national criteria. National criteria for BDC and BDC+ are displayed on www.bcbs.com. Individual outcomes may vary. For details on a provider's in-network status or your own policy's coverage, contact your Local Blue Plan and ask your provider before making an appointment. Neither Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association nor any Blue Plans are responsible for non-covered charges or other losses or damages resulting from Blue Distinction or other provider finder information or care received from Blue Distinction or other providers.
