  • In 2014, The Medical Center became the first hospital in Kentucky to utilize the Kiva® VCF Treatment System for the treatment of vertebral compression fractures (VCFs). Kiva has been shown to reduce the rate of additional spinal fractures, improve restoration of the curvature of the spine, reduce the rate of cement leakage into surrounding tissue and reduce the amount of cement used—all beneficial to the patient’s healing and recovery.
  • The Medical Center is the first hospital in Kentucky to install NICVIEW, a camera system that allows for streaming video of babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
  • The Medical Center is the first hospital in Kentucky and the second in the United States to implant an insertable cardiac monitor--the Medtronic Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM), and is the smallest implantable cardiac monitoring device available in the world today. The small device is part of a powerful system that allows physicians to continuously and wirelessly monitor a patient’s heart for up to three years, with 20 percent more data memory than previous ICMs. It can be monitored from nearly any location in the world.
  • Recently, CHC invested in the Trilogy stereotactic system from Varian Medical Systems, a 64 Slice CT PET scanner, and da Vinci® Surgical System from Intuitive Surgical. Additionally, CHC invested over $5 million in a 5,600 square foot catheterization lab expansion; four cath labs are equipped to perform diagnostic and interventional procedures including peripheral and electrophysiology procedures.
  • The Medical Center completed a $30 million expansion project that includes a two-story addition to the current Emergency Department and Ambulatory Surgery wing of the hospital. The addition provides approximately 48,000 square feet of new space designated entirely for patient care and enables The Medical Center to accommodate 48 new private rooms.
  • The organization is constantly striving to improve the way care is delivered. In 2009, The Medical Center was named a top performer in a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Premier healthcare alliance pay-for-performance (P4P) project that rewards hospitals for delivering higher quality care in five clinical areas.
  • In 2014, CHC received the Gallup Great Workplace Award, which recognizes the best-performing workforces in the world. CHC was one of only 36 organizations world-wide to receive the prestigious Gallup award in 2014.
