With the latest technology in the fight against cancer, The Medical Center Cancer Treatment Center in Bowling Green and the Barren River Regional Cancer Center in Glasgow utilize the Trilogy™ System to provide patients with the most accurate, tumor-destroying beam available. The result is safer, more effective treatment, with better outcomes.
To treat cancer in the brain and other areas of the body, the Trilogy system is used for stereotactic radiosurgery, a form of radiation treatment. Stereotactic radiosurgery painlessly shrinks or eliminates tumors and abnormalities, using focused beams of radiation. It enables radiation oncologists and neurosurgeons to deliver higher doses of radiation more precisely and in fewer treatment sessions than other forms of radiation treatment. This ultrahigh precision spares the surrounding healthy tissue.
Tumors treated with stereotactic radiosurgery are generally small. Therefore, this form of treatment is one of many forms of treatment options used by the Cancer Treatment Center and the Barren River Regional Cancer Center. The decision on which form of treatment is best for the patient is made by taking into consideration many factors including the size, location and type of tumor as well as a patient’s overall health status.
The Medical Center has been providing radiation treatment services for over 25 years. The Cancer Treatment Center in Bowling Green and Barren River Regional Cancer Center in Glasgow are just two components of The Medical Center’s comprehensive cancer program that is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. In addition to ACS accreditation, the Cancer Treatment Center is accredited in radiation oncology by the American College of Radiology.
