5A

5A is a medical-surgical unit that predominately focuses on pulmonary patients. Although the most common diagnoses are COPD and pneumonia, we care for patients that have an array of acute illness involving diabetes, CHF, UTI, acute respiratory failure, cellulitis, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, and many more. We care for ventilator patients who are more than 24 hours post tracheotomy and those who have been on a home ventilation for a long period of time. We also care for a variety of patients who require mask ventilation, Bipap, and CPAP. We work closely with respiratory therapy to care for ventilator patients.

5A is a 24-bed unit with a 1:6 nurse/patient ratio.
