Technology

The Medical Center believes in being progressive when technology enhances patient care. The Surgery department utilizes multiple types of lasers, laparoscopic systems, imaging systems, and a variety of other technology.

da Vinci® Surgical System
In 2009, The Medical Center introduced the da Vinci® Surgical System to our region. The da Vinci uses robotic technology at the hands of a surgeon. A da Vinci procedure requires only small dime-size incisions. Robotic arms hold a high resolution camera and micro instruments that mimic the surgeon's hand movements. The surgeon views a magnified 3D image of the surgical site and controls the instruments that can move 360 degrees. With a better range of motion than the human wrist, the instruments can maneuver more easily in smaller, more intricate areas. Through small incisions, da Vinci surgery is more precise and less invasive, leading to numerous benefits over conventional open surgery including less pain, less blood loss, less scarring, shorter recovery time and faster return to normal daily activities.

Stealth Navigational System
For neurosurgery and ear, nose & throat surgery, The Medical Center utilizes the Stealth Navigational System. Two-D images such as CT scans and MRIs are combined then converted to 3-D images, providing more detailed information of the patient’s organs, muscles and other tissue. Advancements in 3-D technology share many benefits for the patient as well. Doctors can avoid damage to healthy tissue during surgery, smaller incisions are made and the patient experiences less trauma.

Ci™ System
Using minimally invasive computer-assisted surgery technology for total knee replacement, surgeons are able to place the total knee implant in a precise position. The Ci™ System allows surgeons to visualize the surgery on a computer screen by viewing each step of the procedure in real-time, three-dimensional images that mirror the individual patient’s anatomy. The more accurate placement of the implant increases the longevity of the implant and leads to increased mobility for patients at an earlier time. Patients may experience less pain from the procedure. Other benefits include less blood loss, less trauma to the bone, reduced length of stay in the hospital following the procedure, and a shortened rehabilitation period.
