Wound Care

Some wounds are slow or difficult to heal. That’s why Med Center Health established the Wound Management Center, the first such service in Southcentral Kentucky. Staffed with healthcare experts trained in wound care, they understand wounds and the factors that delay healing.

Comprehensive and Specialized Care for Wounds

At the Med Center Health Wound Management Center, our specially-trained staff understand the factors that can delay wound healing. It can be complicated by surgery, trauma, immobility or medical conditions such as diabetes or poor circulation. We provide specialized and comprehensive services on an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Our wound care team includes two vascular surgeons and a plastic surgeon, who are complimented by experienced wound care nurses certified in wound, ostomy and continence care. We evaluate each patient and each wound thoroughly, and consider your medical history before developing a personalized treatment plan. Among the conditions we treat are diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers (bed and chair sores), non-healing surgical wounds, burns, traumatic tissue injury, venous stasis ulcers and any chronic or non-healing wound.

After evaluation of the wound and review of your general health and medical history, a personalized treatment plan is developed. Services may include: removal of dead tissue (or debridement), specialized care including growth factors and compression therapy, skin grafts, foot and nail care, surgical wound closure or vacuum-assisted closure (VAC therapy).

Your primary care physician is kept informed of your care plan and your progress through treatment. The Wound Management Center makes appropriate referrals for services that can help aid in the healing process and prevent future wounds. These include home care, nutrition therapy and diabetes management.
